Database Administration -

Database administration refers to the whole set of activities performed by a database administrator to ensure that a database is always available as needed. Other closely related tasks and roles are database security, database monitoring and troubleshooting, and planning for future growth.

Database administration is an important function in any organization that is dependent on one or more databases.






Database Administrator (DBA) - 

The person responsible for managing database are called, Database administrator.

One of the main reasons for using DBMSs is to have central control of both the data and the programs that access those data.
A person who has such central control over the system is called a Database administrator (DBA).



Duties or Role's of DBA:-

1. Selection of Hardware and Software
2. Managing Data security and privacy.
3. Managing data integrity.
4. Data back up.
5. Database recovery
6. Tunning database performance
7. Improving query processing performance
8. Database design
9. Database implementation
10. Capacity issues



Functions Of DBA:-

1. Schema definition
2. Storage structure and access method definition
3. Schema and physical- organization modification
4. Granting user authority to access the database
5. Routine maintenance
6. Specifying integrity constraints.
